Kale. Yes it looks like something a brontosaurus would nosh on in Jurassic Park, but if you can get over the dense leafy texture. It is truly the Incredible Hulk of superfoods.
• Kale is an Anti-Aging superfood - See incredible Hulk reference above. You will not turn green and bi-polar from eating it, but you will be eating an incredibly anti-oxidant dense food. The more antioxidants on a daily basis, the better.
• Kale is detoxifier. I don’t think I’ve come across a cleanse or detox that didn’t include hefty amounts of kale on a daily basis. So why not just eat it all the time?
• Kale boosts your immune system. Vitamin A, Vitamin C. Loads of it. They should sell it in airports.
So, if you don’t feel like chomping down on a few plain leafs a day, here are a few easy ways I take down the superfood:
1: Blend it in a smoothie.
Simply throw a leaf into your smoothie each morning. You can’t really even taste it.
2: Kale Slaw.
Thinly slice up equal parts Kale and cabbage.
Toss with cole slaw dressing: Light or fat free mayo, apple cider vinegar, celery seeds and a little brown sugar. Take it to your next BBQ. Boom.
3: Kale Chips.
Spread out torn up kale pieces on a cookie sheet. Spray thoroughly with cooking spray, and top with sea salt and paprika, or seasoning of choice. Bake at 350 degrees for 5-10 minutes or until crispy. Make sure not to burn ‘em. They don’t taste like Doritos…but when I perfect the recipe that does, you can bet it will be shared. They do, however taste like Lays.
Aw. Kale yeah.
