Q & A for Sirene Collection

I was honored to do a fun l’il Q&A will the lovely Nell at Sirene Collection for her blog. So, if you want to know more about the gal behind this blog (me), you can check it out here or I went ahead and posted it below. Fun stuff.

If you don’t already follow the awesome beach focused blog Goldfish Kiss, it’s a beach girl must read! The founder Rebekah had time before her trip to Mexico to answer some questions for Sirène.

When and why did you start Goldfish Kiss?
I started it this past December, basically as a creative outlet, and a way to help people find cool lines, & feel better about themselves (especially in swimwear). I just wanted something fun, lighthearted that will make you feel good.

What inspires you?
Photography, patterns, images that make me smile, innovation, integrity, & hard work.

Describe your personal style?
Simple, beachy with a little bit of Bohemian. Wow I never have been asked that before. I always chose fabrics & draping over trends, if it is soft & flattering, I will wear it. I always try to dress simply, Grey tank with whatever cute shorts I find first. If I’m getting dressed up I add a belt and some bracelets. I think half of my wardrobe is 291 Venice since I used to work next to their offices and score at the sample sales.

What are your favorite swimwear designers and why?
Oh gosh that’s hard, this could be an essay. I think Mikoh has the coolest & most innovative designs for sure. Acacia is by far the sexiest. Tyler Rose has insanely fun fabrics and cuts, and Maui Girl separates are the most functional & what I wear practically every day.

What’s in your beach bag?
Ok here we go.. .Supergoop Everyday spf 30 spray, Fresh Sugar lip treatment in Rose, Maybelline Falsies waterproof mascara (I am addicted to mascara, love it), Nars Multiple in Orgasm, Aquaphor, Surfer Salve, Bottle of water, My new Oakley Frogskins, An Extra bikini, Long sleeve t-shirt, phone, about five pens, camera and a sharpie.

You live in Hawaii, what do you think sets Hawaii apart in terms of beach culture?
I’d say it’s that people really don’t try to be beachy – it just happens naturally and is part of your everyday life. A day feels weird when you don’t hop in the ocean or go to the beach. It’s almost like if you don’t go to the beach it the equivalent of feeling like you didn’t brush your teeth.

Favorite beach on earth and why?
Hanalei Bay, Kaua’i. My husband and I were married on the beach there and it seriously is the most gorgeous place on earth. Something with the lighting, the bay, and the mountains right there. It’s insanely peaceful and beautiful, rain or shine.

Hawaii seems like a dream place to live, but if you were to live somewhere else where would it be?
It’s hard to want to live anywhere other than here now. Gosh, I’d have to say If we had to move, I’d still have to be by the ocean, so Southern California, maybe San Diego?

When you aren’t blogging on Goldfish Kiss you are____.
A freelance Graphic Designer and Art Director. Sometimes a model/actress every now and then if I am lucky.

Future plans for Goldfish Kiss?
I’d absolutely love to publish a book or be a columnist/contributor to a major publication or site. We will just see where it takes me.

String or bandeau? Cheeky or full coverage?
String (bandeaus don’t stay on me) and gotta keep it cheeky baby, love to show off the cheeks.

Thanks Rebekah for taking time to share with us! It’s so great to learn more about the girl behind the blog!
