I’ll confess I don’t wear one pieces that often. I have a long torso. But when I do, I feel uber cool. Even better, put on some shorts or a skirt with one…taa daa, instant cute outfit.

So I perused the amazing singlets out there, and here are 5 fantabulous onesies that make me want to cover my bellybutton all summer. One pieces aren’t just for swim team anymore folks, but if you would wear any of these 5 in a swim meet, you’d look amazing. Even with a swim cap and goggles.

1: Tyler Rose - Just like a Woman. It’s net, it’s bright, it has a ruffle, it’s double straps can be can be tied as a bandeau or a halter, it’s versatile. IT’S AWESOME.

2: Mikoh - Montauk. The knots. The knots. The Knots!!! I’m obsessed with these knots.

3: Tori Praver- Lucy If you’ve ever worn Tori’s smocked fabric, you know they make you look & feel awesome. The more smockedness, the better. Bonus points for a removable strap.

4: Letarte - Coton candy - The details people. The details. Little shells and turquoise beads between your cleavage, great pattern. Fun colors. Love it.

5: Acacia Marrakesh - Oh emmm geee. How I love theeee. Especially in the Choctaw pattern. Bonus points for being able to wear anywhereability.

Beach Hair 101: A new topknot

The beloved topknot. Messy, but at times, blah. Time to spruce it up a bit. A while ago I saw this hairdo…and I finally figured it out (2 days ago). Yup. I found a new go-to messy ‘do for summer.

The upside down french braid keeps your neck cool but gives you volume, and hey, anytime you can incorporate a braid into a your hair is a good thing.

So here you go. Give it a whirl…

Upside down French Braid top knot.

• Flip hair over and brush out.

• Grab a small section of hair at the nape of your neck, and start a french braid.

• French braid your hair up towards the top of your head. So you braid from the nape of your neck up to the top of your head, instead of how you usually do it: from the top of your head, down to the nape of your neck.

• When you get to the top of your head, leave the ends un braided. So you’ll have a pony tail at the top of your head.

• Twist hair into a bun or top knot on top of your head, and secure with bobby pins or a rubber band.

• Pull a few strands of hair out around your face.

• Lightly loosen braid and topknot until desired messiness is achieved.

When I hear the word “chia” I think of 2 things.

1: A terra cotta Mr. T head sprouting a green mohawk.

2: One of the best foods, seeds, and nutritional supplements you can eat or drink, that won’t cost you an arm and a leg.

So, let’s all get to know a few benefits of this amazing l’il seed…

• Chia seeds are a super dense & concentrated source of Omega 3’s (aka the must have fatty acid that gives you amazing, skin, hair, heart benefits, and aids in weight loss). It even has more than salmon. So unless you are a grizzly bear in Alaska hunting salmon in the river, this is the next best way to get solid dose of do-your-body-good Omegas.

• They help brain function, which…oh wait… I forgot what I was going to say.

• A great source of Anti Aging antioxidants. Being a beach bum I need all of those suckers I can get.

• The gel like consistency it makes when combined with water makes it a great substitute in baking for oil, butter, or eggs. Chia chocolate chip cookies anyone?

• Chia seeds absorb 12 times their weight in water and are loaded with fiber. Which is a winning combo for helping you feel full and, yeah I don’t need to elaborate on what fiber does. Let’s jsut say, it cleans.

• Loads of calcium, protein, folate, and potassium…and probably other good stuff I’m forgetting…(see second bullet point on brain function.)

Ok, so basically, Chia rocks, and is amazing for your bod. So here are a few delicious ways to consume them. I prefer to drink it. It’s delish and super quick & easy.

1: Chia Juice drink

Chia Gel, (I make a big tub of this. Combine 1/3 cup chia seeds and 3 cups water, mix up and let it sit overnight.)

Use 1/3 cup of chia getl, add Lime juice, juice of choice, and a splash of water. Chug away (pictured above. I drank it this morning.)

2: Chia Smoothie.

Make your smoothie as you normally do, but add a few tablespoons of raw Chia seeds or 1/3 cup chia gel…it will be more of a pudding consistency too. Which is snazzy.

3: Chia Fresca

Water, Chia Gel, Lime juice, Honey, Serve over Ice…add some mint of you’re feeling saucy.

Needless to say, I’m definitely on the Chia bandwagon. Might go buy a Chia Pet to show my support.

These 5 bikinis somehow got my heart at Aloha. This is not easy to do, it’s like picking out a puppy, they all are adorable and you want to take each one home.

1: Acacia Montauk top and Hamoa Bottom in Cantik. It’s gorgeous, amazing print, fringe, cute cut, fun ties, oh yeah and Rihanna rocks it.

2: L*Space Audrey top and Scanty bottom in Mango. My absolutely favorite fringe top and kind of bottoms, in my absolute favorite orange crush worthy color. Yeah, it’s like this one was made based off a checklist of things I love.

3: Ola Feroz Seamless Braided. I own this one. It’s photogenic, even not on a person, imagine what it looks like on your bod. You can get it hand made by Jessica in a bunch of fun colors. amazingly rad neon yellow included.

4. Mikoh Monaco and Todos Santos. I don’t know how Kalani and Oleema designed these knots, but I am fascinated. It’s gorgeous and might be one of the coolest bandeau sets out there.

5. Minimale Animale Cheryl Tiegs. Fishnet over nude lycra. Oh yeah, trompe l’oeil has made its way into swimwear. Love the simplicity ( looks like something you could wear a ton, on and off the beach) and yeah it’s hot. Uber hot.

I am coming to the realization that I show my bum and backside way more that my face. Hey, it’s just easier to shoot. So, I’m opening up a wee bit and thought I’d do the following:

1: Show you my face. Hi, this is me pictured above. Kyle Barnes took the pic and it pretty much is a very good non photoshopped representation. I am a really happy person and my sister told me this is the face I make when I come home and say hi to the pups.

2: Answer a few questions I’ve received from people wanting to know a few tidbits about yours truly.

Alas let the Q&A commence….

• What Waterproof Mascara do you use?

Maybelline Falsies waterproof and Rimmel The Max Volume Flash. They rock my lashes world.

• I was wondering what a typical week looks like in regards to your workouts. :) Also, how long have you been lifting weights and how long did it take for you to start accomplishing pull ups? Thanks much!

Monday, Wednesday and Friday I lift weights for about 50 minutes ( it’s pretty intense), Tuesday and Thursday I do HIIT or some interval sprints. Then I try and be active and surf, do yoga, or hike, whenever I can.

I started lifting weights in 7th grade..then started lifting HEAVY before my Junior year of High School, and have loved being strong ever since.

As for pullups…I just decided to stop using assistance and started off being able to do only 1 or 2. After about a few months could do a few more, then next thing you know, Bam! You can crank out a bunch of those puppies.

• Hey Rebekah! Whats your go-to makeup Items for the beach? I need a little something, without looking overdone. Also stuff that will stay in place! Thanks!

Nars Multiple in Orgasm, waterproof mascara, and Laura Mercier lip stain with SPF lip balm over it. Wham. That’s all you need.

• How do you shave your legs? without getting razor burn? and making them soft?

I use hair conditioner as shaving cream (a drugstore brand that costs under $5) Works like a charm, actually I think better than shaving cream, and one less bottle in the shower.

• What is your favorite shampoo/ must have hair products??

Wen by Chaz Dean is amazeballs. I also love Moroccan oil hair products, the L’oreal ever pure line, and Tresemme Dry Shampoo…and Biosilk leave in treatment - my hair feels necked without it.

• Do you live in Oahu? What are some of your favorite beaches?

Yup! I am soso so soooo blessed to live on Oahu. It’s beautiful and such a great quality of life. My favorite beaches for hanging out are are Lanikai, Waimanalo, Waimea, and Sunset Beach.

• Do you know any websites with super great deals on bikinis?

Ebay. Also all the hot summer styles go on clearance in October, so if you can wait you can save a ton of money. Also if you love an individual line, make sure to follow them on facebook or twitter, because they post promo codes for their online stores.

• What do you do for work?

I am a Graphic Designer and Art Director…an old fart model (aka anyone over the age of 21) and wannabe actress (aka I hope to land a one liner on Hawaii 5-0 One day)

RX Bikini Bod: The 300

The 300 isn’t anything new, but I figured if it was a workout that got Gerard Butler and a bunch of other dudes in leather loin cloth worthy shape, it could definitely help us gals out to feel good in a bikini. Even though we all know their abs were a wee bit enhanced by spray tanning.

Anywho, the workout is an awesome butt kicker. I’m doing it once a week for a month, so if anyone wants to join in…here’s the workout.

The 300:

A total of 300 reps. Try to arrange all equipment together so you can perform every exercise back to back without a break.

1: Pullups - 25 reps

2: Barbell Deadlift with 135 lbs. - 50 reps (I use about 88 lbs. feel free to use dumbbells and a weigh you’d use for walking lunges)

3: Pushups - 50 reps

4: 24-inch Box Jumps - 50 reps

5: Floor Wipers - 50 reps

6: Single-Arm Clean-and-Press with 36 lbs Kettlebell - 50 reps total. 25 each arm (I use 20lbs)

7: Pullups - 25 reps

One more tidbit. Each time you do it try to beat the time it took you to complete it the week before.

Can’t do pull ups? Try inverted pull ups, or use a band or chair for assistance….or call up Gerard Butler or any actor that was in his army to give you a boost.

Beach Beauty: Calico Toes

Painted myself some über cute toes yesterday. Calico to be exact. Love ‘em.

I found this tutorial for your fingers, but thought it would last longer, be easier to do, and be pretty dang cute on those l’il piggies.

DIY Calico Toes:

1. Paint toes light blue

2. On a piece of plastic or cardboard, put a small blob of light pink and bright pint polish next to each other so they touch.

3. Dip a homemade dotting tool in the middle of the 2 light polishes (this creates the 2 toned flower effect) and make flowers by clumping 3-5 dots together.

4. Using a tooth pick or nail art brush, paint some thin green lines for leaves.

5. Done. Perfectly pretty springtime toes that will cause you to not wear a closed toed shoe for at least 2 weeks.

Polish Used: China Glaze Hop Top Blue, 4Free by Mary Jo Matsumoto Floating Lotus, Essie Fiji and Sally Hansen Lickety Lime split.

It’s the most obsession worthy kind of top around. And they are really really reheheheeally fun & flattering.

No one designs them better than Monica Wise of L*Space. Homegirl has set the bar for fringe style. The tops are simply amazing. And no store has more of a selection of these beauties than All Wet Beachwear. (They EVEN carry the little kid fringe one piece. yeah, too cute.)
