Modelo Especial. Best consumed in a lime bikini.
Actually, I just realized the color is officially called Margarita, and this was taken on Cinco de Mayo…ironic.

There are 2 easy & safe (aka bleach is a non-factor) ways to get the sweet ombre look that screams I love wavy, salty, messy, carefree beach hair.
I’ve done/use them both.
Option 1: Take your patient pills
Don’t highlight your hair regularly. Go about every 6 months at least, you’ll have natural, sweet, dark roots, and save money. When you do highlight your hair, use the balayage technique so the color doesn’t grow out in an even line.
Option 2: Instant gratification.
(hairstylists, please don’t hate me, I get bored and it’s an easy, affordable fix)
1. Grab a box of non-permanent hair color (the kind that washes out in 28 shampoos) that’s 1 or 2 shades darker than your current color. Natural Instincts dark blonde is my go-to.
2. Brush your hair out so it’s tangle free, and then using a wide toothed comb, lightly comb in the color from your scalp down as low as you want it to go, concentrating on getting most of the color at your roots, then fading it out.
3. Make sure to not get color on the ends, and leave a few sections right around your face dry for a sun pecked look.
*Mine looks rather sweet right now, I’m trying to not wash it so the color will last. Thank goodness for dry shampoo.

The impeccable Ellen Von Unwerth for Guess Summer 2011. If I could make a 3’x4’ canvas of this, I would.

Don’t even try to tell me this pic doesn’t make you feel relaxed and ready for a stroll on the beach.
Anja Rubik & Carter Smith = Gorgeousness
I was flipping through my favorite photography book I own, Alive, by Mario Testino and I realized that this was Marisa Miller. She’s one of my favorite models, and the ULTIMATE All American beach babe. So naturally, had to share.
Gorgeous, huh?? Rock those Freckles.

I have three doctors, one make up artist, and one aesthetician backing me up on this: There is a safe way to gradually get a golden tan like Ms. Natasha Poly pictured above.
It’s simple & surprisingly beneficial; 20 minutes of sun exposure once a day. (20 minutes on each side if you are laying out.) Think of it as baby step tanning. Plus, there are more benefits other than having a bronze glow. Regular consistent small amounts of exposure to the sun (without burning) can actually have a protective effect on the skin, increases much-needed Vitamin D levels in the body, improves your mood (when DON’T you feel happier & more energetic after being outside?), helps depression, and dozens of other perks.
The sun’s rays aren’t deadly folks. We’d be S.O.L. on Earth without them - just use them in moderation for aesthetic purposes, and if you are going to be out more than 20 minutes, use common sense: cover up, find some shade & slather on some SPF.

In fact, after looking through a few pics of Ms. Heart, I have officially booked her as Goldfish Kiss’s unofficial official spokesmodel.
Not sure if it’s the perfect beach hair (however she chooses to wear it), the year round healthy glow - paired with a toned bod, the laid back Aussie vibe, or just the charming gap tooth smile, but Jess - you are booked.
More great pics at her blog. Sweetness.
