Rx Bikini bod. What I do.

Ok. So, I’ve received a bunch of emails asking what exactly I do to workout, or what my workout routine looks like. I am 1: Totally flattered that you want to know, and 2: Going to outline what a typical week’s worth of working out looks like, in a somewhat coherent way, since I have workout ADD, and I tend to change things up often.

But here’s a typical week for you.

RX Bikini Bod: The 300

The 300 isn’t anything new, but I figured if it was a workout that got Gerard Butler and a bunch of other dudes in leather loin cloth worthy shape, it could definitely help us gals out to feel good in a bikini. Even though we all know their abs were a wee bit enhanced by spray tanning.

Anywho, the workout is an awesome butt kicker. I’m doing it once a week for a month, so if anyone wants to join in…here’s the workout.

RX Bikini Bod: The Go-to Circuit

Some days you only have 30 minutes to workout, you have no motivation or clue what to do, or you ate an entire plate of fully loaded Nachos the night before. I’ve had many days like that and there is a circuit that is my go-to solution. I don’t know where I found it, but it’s on an old piece of paper that’s been folded up and stepped on one too many times.

The Go-To Full Body Circuit

Use a weight that’s challenging but no too heavy since it’s higher reps.

RX Bikini Bod: Mix it up.

If your weekly workout routine has not changed in the past 4 months, or 4 years, it’s time to give your plan the old switch-a-roo. Why? All your body ever wants to do is recover and recuperate. If you are doing the exact same things week after week. Well, your body probably knows what’s up and all you are gonna reach is a plateau.

Also when you try something different or challenge your muscles in a new way, it gives you an added bonus called… motivation.

So, instead of just devoting another 20 minutes to the elliptical, or another set of crunches, try out some of these tricks to spice up your workout week.

RX Bikini Bod: The bum builder, aka the hip thrust

There is a little website everyone who wants a hard round booty needs to bookmark, Brettcontreas.com. Why? His nickname is the glute guy. If you really really want to work on your bum, check out his site and incorporate one of his favorite exercise into your workouts, the Hip Thrust. Ok, you’re thinking, glute guy who likes hip thrusts. No, he is not a perv, he’s an expert on strength and conditioning, and having a strong set of glutes is essential to being explosive, fast, and powerful. Need reference? Just look at any any NFL player’s bum. It’s easy. They wear tights.

So, the hip thrust. I love it, have done it for a while now, and notice a major difference in project shelf-butt. Thank you Rachel Guy for the inspiration.

Instead of attempting to explain, which would leave most people getting hurt, I’ll let the experts take it over from here, and leave you with some videos of people doing hip thrusts. *Take note of the heavy weight and low reps…

Yowzers, that’s a lot of weight

RX Bikini Bod: Want curves? Lift heavy.

There are things it’s ok to be scared of: spiders, heights, snakes, and clowns. But it’s not ok to be scared of lifting heavy weights in fear of getting big. I’m sorry, but that’s just plain wimpy and such an overused cliche.

Australian strength coach and physical therapist, Rachel Guy (who also happens to be a contributor to Men’s Health and Shape magazine) shares the same opinion. But she has the credentials and education backing up her articles, so I’ll let her do the talking:

Excerpts from Rachel’s interview with Bret Contreras (a.k.a. the glute guy)

Women need to quit training like gerbils on the treadmill and lift some heavy shit! – There you go, I said it!

I feel it is very important for us chicks to have curves, but I want killer curves, and I want them to be hard curves, and in all the right places. I am on a tunnel-vision mission to get an awesome C-Shaped ass!

Ladies – listen up!! While cardio is great for your heart, it will not change the shape of your body. Cardio training should be done outside in fresh air in a park or beach if you wish to walk and talk. In the gym, use your time productively and LIFT WEIGHTS for killer curves, stronger bones, elevated metabolism, and overall general health. It is very hard for us girls to put on a decent amount of muscle. I have never met a chick that is lean and genuinely thinks her quads are too big. Honestly, you need to drop fat, not worry about gaining muscle!

RX Bikini Bod: TRX - your escape from the gym

It’s ironic, being relatively obsessed with lifting weights and working out, that one of my top 5 least favorite places to be is in the gym. They just annoy the crap out of me. People doing pointless exercises, meat heads grunting while they do their 16th set of bicep curls, bicep curls at the squat rack. Machines, all the pointless machines. Oh the outfits I’ve seen that still singe my retinas. Yes, I dislike gyms.

But wait, there’s hope. Thanks to TRX, your future gym could be in any door frame, on a playground swing set, or even the branch of a palm tree on the beach.
