May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii, and I love it. Even when I am in drought ridden LA. So, I was determined to find some flowers in my neighborhood and make a lei, of the non tropical variety. Which I did. And am glad I persevered.
It doesn’t smell a fraction of a fraction as good as one with plumeria, but there was definitely something therapeutic about taking a few minutes to string some flowers on some floss, listen to some Hawaiian music, and hope my neighbors weren’t too upset I “borrowed” some bougainvillea.
Want to make a lei? There’s a plethora of youtube tutorials to the rescue. I promise its easy. And Did I mention how relaxing it is.
Happy Lei Day.
