Well, It’s been a few weeks since we got back from Oahu, and I finally got around to looking at all my pics. Yup, it still feels like home to my heart, even though it’s been ages, and I don’t know if we ever will be able to move back.
But damn, it feels so good to go back, especially now that Levi is older and just cruise with him and show him some of our favorite spots. I’m pretty impressed I got any pics at all since traveling solo with my little dude is pretty much constant on-the-go action. I also didn’t fully close my little point-and-shoot waterproof cam, and when I opened the latch, water just dumped out. So yeah, glad I got some pics on there before it went swimming.
I get asked for travel recs, and new food trucks and boutiques are popping up all the time. So I’m the last person to know it all, but I definitely have my must-do’s and a few links.
Must Do’s.
1: When we get to the airport we lock up our shoes in the trunk. It’s barefoot or slippers (flip flops) only for the duration of the trip.
2: Slow down, don’t plan, and see where the day takes you. It leaves you open to just cruise, relax, and as Levi said, have little adventures.
3: Open the windows, and soak up the delicious sounds and smells. Light rain, birds, the warm breeze, and if you’re close to the ocean enjoy your sound machine.
4: Get in the ocean each day, wherever and whenever possible. Preferably with a board or mask and fins.
5: Beach walks and picking flowers.
That’s pretty much my plan when we go back.
The must eat’s:
Wailua Bakery – Get a sandwich, an ice cream sandwich, an iced tea with pineapple juice and a cold brew.
Momosan Waikiki – The ribs, spicy tan tan ramen, and frozen Kirin are my favorite.
Haleiwa Bowls – Breakfast whenever possible. Boom.
Poke, wherever, and whenever. I just love grabbing it at Foodland with a bag of chips and green tea.
Da Shops:
Ok, I should be better at this, but Guava Shop and Bikini Bird immediately come to mind. Honestly, I rarely shop in stores these days, but those are two gems. Oh yes and the ABC store. Lots of trips there.
I don’t know, it feels weird to even try to do a travel guide. I love walking, cruising, soaking up island life, and in the end, trying not to shed too many tears when we head back to the airport.
Oahu, I’ll always love you. Friends, I’ll be back to couch surf, and regular surf again soon. Levi might never let me go without him now, too.
Cool stuff above:
Day Camp hat (Local Oahu brand)
Issa De Mar Cropped Rashguard (One of my favorite swimwear lines, and they are based on The North Shore)
Zoya Candy Nail polish. It’s the perfect pink. Even when chipped.
Aquari bikini – Rad new swimwear line to check out.
New Jemma Sands gems. along with staples from Lexi Jewelry, Adove Roden, Kate Davis, and Puka Perri.
And a happy, sandy, kind of got my tan back for a few days, me.
Pics taken on my little Panasonic Lumix, my point-and-shoot waterproof Lumix (RIP little blue buddy. Tiem to find another one on eBay), and my iPhone.
