I just realized I’ve about me having to deal with problem skin for the majority of my life, yet never talked about how I’ve managed to deal with it.
So let’s rectify that situation, shall we? Time to talk about a few things that have saved my pain in the arse, acne, hyper-pigmentation, combination, puffy eyed prone skin.
The top two are not that interesting, but they work.
1. Water. Drink a ton of it. It’s crucial. And I mean it’s like trying to live without breathing type of crucial. Whenever my skin is acting up, I look at my water intake and that’s the number one thing I fix asap.
2: Diet. They say your skin shows off what you eat. I say yup, it’s true. The less processed food and refined sugar your consume, the happier your skin will be.
Ok now tricks/and products. Aka the fun/not a lecture stuff.
3: Swiss Kriss herbal laxative tea flakes. I learned this trick back when I was 16. love it. Bring a pot of water to a boil, take it off the heat, add this loose leaf tea flakes, put a towel on your head, then relax, breathe, and somehow manage to miraculously steam out all the gunk in your pores. I haven’t done this in a while, and you can tall. Time to buy some more.
4: Tea tree oil. This is my go-to zit/annoying stuff popping up on my face SOS tool. Put a little on a q-tip, then spot treat. Works like a charm. Even with the big boulder painful zits.
5: Cold Cucumbers – Yes this cliché trick works like a charm for puffy tired eyes. Slice some cold cucumbers, put them on your eyes, then lay down and chill for a minute. Also works wonders if you’ve gotten too much sun and your eyes are hurting (This saved me when I torched my eyes surfing in Moorea this past winter).
And yes, I eat the slices afterwards. Sorry.
7: Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Peels. I’ve talked about these before, I will talk about them again and again and again. And again. they’re just that great.
6: Shisiedo Ibuki Multi Solution Gel: It’s a new “Skin Fixer upper” – You know, a product that helps with rough skin, large pores, zits, but still moisturizes and is lightweight. And oh yeah, it can also do the running man. I’ve been testing it out, and am quite a fan, especially with my crazy hormonal combination and lack of sleep skin lately. In fact, I HAVE AN EXTRA JAR TO GIVE AWAY. (So just leave me a comment on this post saying why you want to try it, and you’re entered.) Thanks Shiseido.
Oh, and there’s one more BIG tip that helps with skin. Which explains why mine is a bit fussy lately…
8. Sleep. They call it beauty sleep for a reason. Get some.
and one more major one, I forgot.
9. Be happy. Smiling, laughing, and being optimistic are instant skin brighteners. Really, they are. Promise.
So I am off to try and catch a few zzzz’s…with cucumbers on my eyes, after chugging some water, eating some broccoli, steaming my face and snuggling with some Shiseido. Which will definitely make me smile.
High five for skin savers. And learning to love and take care of your skin, no matter what it’s acting like each day.
