A River Runs Through it For The Weekend

Well, we finally made it to a cabin for a few nights. It only took us five years to finally do this, and I am 100% certain it won’t be another five years before we do it again.

Think: Secluded, only the sounds of rushing water, cozy on a rainy day, rad hikes nearby, easy meals, reading nook in the loft with a view, rad books and games, dog friendly, and of course, a hot tub.

We stayed at The River Runs Through It Cabin, in Index, Washington. A local company, Treeline Rentals runs it, and they sure know how to do a cabin. It’s been around for quite some time (the guest books were super entertaining proof of this to flip through. So much better than online reviews.)

It was equal parts cozy, comfy, rustic, and not too overdone…but the heated floors in the bathroom were a nice touch. Same with the gas fireplace, because I am not messing with creating an open flame in a vacation rental, and that sucker helped me sleep like a baby.

Anyways, as with all travel, I had zero expectations and was a typical mom super pumped to spend some QT with my fam, especially our pup. Kili is 10 and a half and usually barks at everything that passes by, but for this weekend she would lay looking out the big window that overlooked the creek and forest non-stop, didn’t make a peep, and didn’t want to leave. She also didn’t hold back in needing to go out in the middle of the night when it was pitch black and I was a wee bit nervous about bears.

What else? I think the key is to not plan, just relax and be…Uno, puzzles, good tunes, and a movie night. My son got to use a DVD player (They had A River Runs Through It in the DVD selection and I was sadly outvoted for Minions.)

The big outing was to check out Espresso Chalet (7 miles away) and I finally got to hike to Bridal Veil Falls (8 miles away.) And whoever started the trend of having hot tubs at these cabins, I thank you.

I didn’t take too many pics, but hopefully the ones I did take captured the vibe. Which was a relaxing one for sure.

Cabin getaway: So glad to finally check something off the list I’ve wanted to do since we moved here. And I definitely recommend it.

Next up? A tree house…
