Easy ways to drink more water

Water. It’s the best and cheapest thing you can consume to improve your overall health on the inside and out. I’d bet half of my life savings that anyone with great skin, who is a vibrant and glowing human being, drinks a lot of water. It’s what’s flowing in the fountain of youth. We all need to drink the stuff. Whether it’s ionized, filtered, plain ol’ tap, or  Voss, I don’t care what you prefer. Drink up. Drink it regularly, and enjoy reaping all of it’s amazing benefits.

Now, I realize there are a ton of different things in the world that taste better, and are more exciting. So, here are a few ways that help me chug lots of H2O on a daily basis. Because I love the stuff. And you should too.

1: Throw some fruit in it.

I keep bags of frozen fruit in our freezer conveniently right next to all the ice. This way, whenever I fill up my water bottle, I’ll throw some pineapple chunks in it. Sometimes I get saucy and do pineapple, mango, and strawberries. Regardless what the combo is, it always comes out deliciously delicious. And makes me pumped to drink up, and refill the sucker again.

2: Invest in a cool reusable water bottle.

I wonder if anyone’s ever done a study on how much more water people consume when it’s out of a rad water bottle. Well they should. Because I swear ever since I acquired my bkr last year around this time, my consumption dramatically increased. No joke. (I now own a big 1L and a small 500ml one I carry with me everywhere). And I’m not plugging bkr, they have no clue who I am. There’s just something about owning something you take pride in refilling. And I swear water tastes better in a nice water bottle. If a bkr doesn’t make you do a happy hydration dance, I also am a huuuuuuge fan of my Hydro Flask (water bottles that keep your cold drinks cold for 24 hours, and hot drinks hot for 12. They’re brilliant). That’s what I use with my ice + frozen fruit + water concoctions. And my husband loves it for beer. But that’s a whole other post.

3: Chug it the morning and at night.

Ok, I got this tip from one of my fitness muses, Cameron Dias, in The Body Book (go read it now) and I go to bed with a filled water bottle on my bedside table. This way, when I wake up totally parched first thing in the morning, I can chug that sucker. It gets your body lubed up, already craving the good stuff right away, and off to a clean start. I also chug one right before I go to bed. Even if it results in a middle of the night bathroom run. It’s worth it. A big glass of water is totally fine too.

 4: Just drink it.

This might sound like a no brainer tip, but tell yourself you have to drink water. At a restaurant, whatever you order to drink, make sure you also get a water. When you take a break from work, make sure it’s a water break. Trying to break a soda habit? chug some water before you crack open a can. If you are a Big Gulp/large fountain drink junkie (like myself), keep the cup and straw and just refill the Big Gulp with….some water. Whenever you feel the slightest bit thirsty, go drink some water. It’s helps, you’ll get used to it, and learn to crave it. And your body will thank you for it.

Promise.

…off to drink some water. Writing this post made me thirsty.
