Cannon Beach.

A little over 230 miles away, there is a beach, that’s unlike any beach I’ve ever been to. It’s called Cannon Beach. And it’s the bomb. A cannon bomb.

My husband and I ventured out on his last free weekend before his football season started, and I can’t wait to go back. I didn’t know a beach could be so beautiful, even if no palm trees were in sight, the sun only came out for 5 minutes, the water wasn’t warm, and in order to surf you need to be in 5 MM thick neoprene. Gloves and Booties included.

Here are some highlights from this rather noteworthy weekend:

Surfing for the first time in Oregon. Note: Wear gloves. Attempting to pop up when you can’t feel your hands is not an easy thing. I guess the water was 53 degrees. (Someone said it was warm.) Getting a cold headache when you duck dive was a first too. For some reason, I loved it all. Oh yeah, I know why…I got to surf.

Going for one of the most exhilarating morning runs in my life. The beach is wide, flat, covered in tide pools with enormous starfish, and to top it all off it was foggy out. I’ll have the gorgeous mental picture engraved in my brain for a long time.

Thinking we could just find a hotel room at the last minute. Not a good idea. Long story short. After calling every single place, we got the ONE room left in a 20 mile radius, and had to fork over much more money than we intended….for a luxury suite. Next time, definitely making reservations.

My first oyster burger. ‘Twas delicious.

Bonfires along the beach. We didn’t have one, but I observed from afar. I am definitely having one next time. You are invited if you’re in the area. Just bring s’mores. And some beer.

Haystack rock. All of the rocks along the beach. I felt like I was in Goonies. Something about this coastline is mesmerizing. I’ve never seen anything like it.

It was absolutely freezing. Yet I still loved it, had a blast, and can’t wait to go back. If it was this pretty when it’s grey, I can’t imagine what it’s like when it’s sunny.

Cannon beach, see you again soon…

And I’ll remember my camera. Enjoy the iPhone pics.
