Beach Beauty: Homemade Honey Vanilla lip balm.

I think I detest dry lips more than bad drivers, or my old boss’s fake laugh. I’m also becoming gradually more aware of all the chemical gunk in beauty products ( especially ones I tend to eat), as well as the impact that owning ten different kinds of lip balms has on the wallet.  Solution: homemade lip balm made of simple, easy to find ingredients – none of which are dipolyhydroxystearate (just found that in the ingredients on a tube of balm sitting on my desk.) This sweet little concoction is easy to make, customize, can be a great little “thinking of you” gift, and will help pamper your pout after a day of fun in the sun.

Homemade Honey Vanilla Lip balm:

You’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp. petroleum jelly
  • 1/8 tsp. oil of choice (vitamin E, coconut, kukui, olive)
  • 1 tbsp. beeswax
  • 1 tsp. honey
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • Container
  • Label (optional) but now is your time to shine in the world of package design.

1. Melt the first three ingredients. Place the petroleum jelly, beeswax and oil in small microwavable bowl. Microwave for about 3-5 minutes until ingredients have turned into a transparent liquid.

2. Leave the bowl to cool to room temperature for about 5-10 minutes, then mix in the honey and vanilla. The texture should start to thicken.

3. Optional: If you want a little shimmer or color, add in a bit of shimmer powder/eyeshadow or a little bit of lipstick, reheat if you need for a minute or so, and stir in.

4. Pour in the liquid lip balm into a container you chose, and let cool/solidify.

Enjoy some simple, penny saving, lip-smacking, beach beauty goodness….then go give someone a big ‘ol smooch.
