So, for the past five or so days, I’ve been compiling a little list of simple things that give my soul a hug. Or just make me smile from the inside out. Or heck, just something that has the ability to turn off my mind for a bit. All of which make me feel good.
I love this list. I love simplicity. And I could definitely add more, but figured I’d stop at 20. I also wanted to make sure it has nothing to do with geographic location, and didn’t involve spending money on anything.
So, figured I’d share it.
It all stems from this Andy Rooney quote, which I honestly could share and re share as much as possible. It’s so darn relevant…and true:
“For most of life, nothing wonderful happens. If you don’t enjoy getting up and working and finishing your work and sitting down to a meal with family or friends, then the chances are that you’re not going to be very happy. If someone bases his happiness or unhappiness on major events like a great new job, huge amounts of money, a flawlessly happy marriage or a trip to Paris, that person isn’t going to be happy much of the time. If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, flowers in the yard, a drink or a nap, then we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness.” ~ Andy Rooney.
I should’ve added nap to the list. But naps are kind of the luxurious equivalent to a trip to Paris for me these days. Ahhhh oui, les siestes sont un rêve pour moi.
Anywho, I don’t want to come across as a wannabe motivational speaker, or sounds preachy – but back when I was a month or two postpartum, I read a similar list called: “Simple ways to beat the mommy blues” and man oh man did that list help me. One thing on it was “shower before noon” which I hadn’t done in a month or two. So yeah, it was a simple kind of list too.
I just think it’s good to think about what makes you feel good, like, genuinely alive, present, and good. Then dwell on it, and be grateful for the feeling it gives you. It’s like mental glitter. So who knows, maybe this list might help someone find a little spark of happiness too.
Also, if you want to create your own, here’s a blank template. Made it nice and sunny for ya.
