Not every cardio session has to involve running shoes, dry fit material, a trip to the gym, or an ipod. In fact, some everyday activities seen on the beach will blast a whole lot more calories and use more muscles than a typical workout zoning out on an elliptical while watching reruns of Real Housewives of New Jersey. So next time you are at the beach, instead of simply laying there, get up off your towel for a little bit, and try one of these activities:
1. Smashball Beach Tennis. Whoever knew hitting a little rubber ball back and forth with a pal could be so much fun. Well, it is. Play it for 30 minutes, you will be sweating & laughing, I promise.
2. Beach Volleyball. Whether you are bump, set, & spiking it like an expert, or simply running after shanks (like me), beach volley works your legs, arms, bum, core..ok your whole body. It’s also a blast and who doesn’t like hitting things?
3. Walk. Ok this is simple, but just get up and go for a walk on the beach. The scenery is great, the sand makes it a little bit harder. Feel like running. Go for it. I’ve been known to spontaneously get up and go for a 20 minute run, then hop in the ocean.
4. Play. Just watch kids at the beach, pool, or lake. Exhausting, I know. So, play with them for 30 minutes and you will be exhausted. Marco Polo is a beeyotch.
