A no equipment needed, quick yet tough, workout

image

I have a confession to make. Lately I hate going inside to the gym. Blame it on the weather (which is awesome) or Summer (which rocks), but my motivation to go in any air-conditioned, predominantly concrete facility is not that high. Fortunately, that means I’ve been creative in ways to workout outside, at the beach, on a whim, with little to no equipment.

So naturally, I thought I’d share an example of one such, totally made up on the fly, type of workout.

That made my lungs and legs feel like they were going to explode.

Set 1

• Warm up and stretch.

• Walk out about 75 super long steps from your starting point, and leave a mark (hat, shoe, towel, etc.), then walk back.

• Sprint to that marker, touch it and sprint back (yes, like a wind-sprint in basketball but barefoot on the sand)

• Do 10 jumping jacks

• Repeat five times, with little to no rest. Then proceed to the next set.

Set 2

• Now walk out about 50 super long steps from your starting point, and leave a mark, then walk back.

• Sprint to that marker, touch it and sprint back.

• Do 10 slow, great form push ups.

• Repeat five times, with little to no rest. Then proceed to the next set.

Set 3

• Walk out about 30 super long steps from your starting point, and leave a mark.

• Sprint to that marker, touch it and sprint back.

• Do 10 jumping jacks and 5-7 slow, great form push ups.

• Repeat five times, with little to no rest. Then chug some water.

Done. Go hop in the ocean, stretch, then plop down on the sand for a much needed nap. Even though you’ll be so amped up you probably won’t be able to fall asleep.
