If you google “21 days to make or break a habit” the articles you come up with are quite interesting. Well here’s another one I’m adding to the google group.
The rumor is that it takes 21 days to either make or break a habit. Myth or not. I say it’s worth a shot. Good habits and bikinis go hand in hand. And, let’s all be realistic, just because you do something for 21 days you aren’t 100% confirmed of always doing it from that point on. Duh. But It’s a great, not too long, not too short time to try things out and see how you feel.
I am a firm believer in trying to think of something positive to do (make) instead of something not to do (break). Because, I swear our minds, no matter what age we are, are wired like 3 years old. Tell them something not to do…it’s all you want to do, and you get fixated on it.
So here are a few ideas of good habits to make in 21 days.
1: Go on a 10 minute walk
2: Eat a fruit or veggie with every meal or snack
3: Drink over 1.5 L of water a day
4: Only eat 100% whole grain carbs
5: Do something that makes me break a sweat
6: Do 25 push ups, 50 sit ups, and 5o squats
7: Get outside for 10 minutes
8: If I’m going to have sweets, make it just be 3 tiny bites.
9. Floss. Darnit!
10. Sleep 8 hours a night.
…and a few don’ts (habits to break), to completely contradict myself.
1: No fast food
2: Do not say anything bad about your body or how you look
3: No Soda before noon.
There you go! I’m going to try and do #2 and #3. Wish me luck.
